Way Dynamic, the Melbourne project led by Dylan Young, has signed to Jagjaguwar, and the label is giving last year’s Massive Shoe a proper international push. The reissue is due October 2 on vinyl, CD, and digital formats through Secretly Store and Bandcamp, while Jagjaguwar lists it as catalog number JAG503.
The announcement also comes with a first North American tour for Way Dynamic. The run starts September 15 at Music Hall of Williamsburg in New York and moves through Philadelphia, Washington, New Haven, Montreal, Toronto, Chicago, Columbus, Pittsburgh, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. Star Moles support the first nine North American dates; Slippers support the two California shows at the end.
Jagjaguwar describes Massive Shoe as Young’s third album and pegs Way Dynamic’s world somewhere between minimalist folk-pop, art rock, and baroque pop. That scans: “Miffed It” has the kind of loose, glowing soft-rock motion that sounds small until the hooks start quietly taking over the room.
Young is also connected to a very Melbourne web of projects: Jagjaguwar notes that he plays in Cool Sounds and Good Morning and has played drums with Snowy Band and Kankawa Nagarra. BrooklynVegan’s announcement points out that Waxahatchee’s Katie Crutchfield singled out “Miffed It” as a recent favorite, which feels like the right lane marker for this thing: tender, funny, and quietly built to last.
