Eddy Current Suppression Ring are back without much warning and without much fuss, which is exactly how a band like this should reappear. The Melbourne garage-punk cult heroes released a surprise album today, In Light Of Recent Events, their fifth LP and first full-length since 2019's All In Good Time.

The record is streaming now on the band's Bandcamp page, which lists an 11-song tracklist and a May 26, 2026 release date. Bandcamp notes that the album was recorded in 2025 at Squires Loft, and Stereogum reports that the release is self-released. The tracklist runs from opener "Self Sabotage" through closer "Past And Future," with "Bop," "Hard To Be Moved," "Turtle," and "Ulterior Motives" in the early stretch.

The album follows last year's three-song Shapes And Forms EP. Stereogum notes that none of those EP tracks appear on In Light Of Recent Events, making this a clean new batch rather than a padded-out comeback document. For a band whose whole appeal is the feeling of four people locking into a room until the walls start sweating, that matters: Eddy Current Suppression Ring have never needed ornament when momentum will do the job.

Their current reactivation has already been visible in Australia. Vivid Sydney's event page for the band's Tumbalong Nights appearance calls Eddy Current Suppression Ring one of Australia's most revered underground bands, says the four-piece formed in 2003, and points to last year's Federation Square show and Shapes And Forms as proof that the band remained raw, explosive, and catchy after a lengthy hiatus.

There is a vinyl wrinkle, too: Bandcamp lists a black 12-inch LP, but the format is currently sold out on the page. The band's note says UK, Europe, and U.S. LP copies are expected around June 26, with fresh copies planned for those territories through Bandcamp and stores; Australia is pointed toward local retailers first, with more Australian Bandcamp copies expected in mid-July.

If your ideal rock band sounds like a live wire arguing with a broken appliance, this is the morning's gift. Listen to In Light Of Recent Events on Bandcamp.
